EMC for IT Equipment

Quick links:

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) concerns are generally well understood within the Information Technology (IT) equipment sector. However, advances in technology (higher frequencies and lower power electronics) can cause problems when updating previously compatible apparatus.

IT equipment is largely covered by two standards, EN 55022 for emissions and EN 55024 for immunity. Our three laboratories at Bristol, Castleford (West Yorkshire), and Donibristle (Fife) offer pre-compliance and UKAS-accredited testing to these standards.

Manufacturers of IT equipment intended for harsh environments (eg industrial, railway) may wish to consider testing apparatus to standards specific to those environments (eg EN 61000-6-2, EN 50121-x). We can offer advice for specific environments.

York EMC Services also offer training at various levels, from one day courses explaining manufacturers' obligations under the EMC Directive, through workshops on EMC Testing and EMC Design to advanced EMC design courses.
